Northern Europe Yacht Charter
More and more international yachting charters are heading north from the Mediterranean in search of new vistas. Scandinavia and the Baltic States in Northern Europe offer both cosmopolitan pleasures and spectacular countryside. Fjords and fir-studded hillsides, ancient castles and sparkling clean cities; you can find them all in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Scandinavia

Scandinavia is a study in contrasts – your Northern Europe itinerary may combine quaint fishing villages with some of the world’s most modern ports. Denmark’s Copenhagen, which welcomes yachtsman with its famous Little Mermaid statue atop a rock in the harbor; Stockholm with its many bridges and its charming historic section, and Helsinki, Finland’s waterfront capital rich in culture and arts, are all well worth exploring. But the most unique attraction in this fairytale region is its breathtaking natural wonders, including Norway’s fjords and glaciers, Iceland’s icecaps and waterfalls and the archipelagos off Sweden and Denmark. You can lose yourself for days in these islands, picnicking on their sun-kissed shores and toasting the endless evenings in one beautiful anchorage after the next.

Baltic States

The Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, are also rich in history and natural wonders, but they offer the added attraction of being largely free of summer’s tourist throngs. Those in the know advise charter clients to book quickly, however, as these long-forgotten countries are sure to be discovered soon. Riga, Latvia’s capital, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unparalleled collection of art nouveau buildings. Another must-see city is Tallinn in Estonia, noted for its Medieval Old Town filled with winding cobblestone streets, soaring spires and vibrant markets, all surrounded by a protective wall complete with guard towers. A longer charter itinerary might continue on to Russia and the historic waterfront city of St. Petersburg, home of the world-renowned Hermitage Museum.
