Baron Carruthers

Born and raised in the coastal city of Durban, South Africa, Baron Carruthers’ deep love for the ocean was cultivated from a young age, taking part in activities ranging from surfing in Plettenberg Bay to deep-sea fishing, to water skiing on the Vaal River. Finding himself naturally drawn to the yachting industry, Baron started out as a deckhand in 2010, working his way up to chief officer and then captain in just nine years. Throughout his career, Baron has gained wide-ranging cross-industry experience, including two years in yacht management overseeing vessels ranging in size from 35-65 metres

Over the course of his working life, Baron has enjoyed chartering in locations as diverse as the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the South Pacific and the East Coast of the USA, with the Galapagos Islands firmly on his bucket list for future adventures. Deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the industry, Baron has obtained a Chief Mate 3000 Licence, alongside other maritime degrees and is well-versed in relevant procedures and the ISM code. Currently based in Fort Lauderdale, when he’s not on the water, Baron enjoys snowboarding, fly fishing and kiteboarding. Baron commented on his new role: “I am so excited to be joining the FGI Yachting team as a Sales Broker. Working with the FGI team is like working with family, and for me, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the happy owners at the end of a successful sale.”
