HISTORY
Menorca, also known as Minorca, is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea with a rich history dating back millennia. The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of human presence dating back to the Talayotic period. During the Bronze Age, the island was home to the Talayots, who built megalithic structures such as the Naveta des Tudons. The island was later conquered by the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Moors and finally the Spanish in 1708. During the 18th century, Menorca played a key role in the British Empire as a naval base, and many of the island's fortifications and defensive structures were built by the British during this period. In the 20th century, Menorca became a popular tourist destination and today it is known for its beautiful beaches, historic sites and charming towns.
